Throat Conditions

Common throat conditions can include:

Sore Throats/Tonsillitis

Sore throats are usually caused by infection and are self limiting after a week or so. If the soreness persists you needs further investigation to exclude any sinister underlying cause. Repeated episodes of severe debilitating sore throat symptoms may be caused by Tonsillitis and Tonsillectomy may relieve these symptoms.

Lower Pain Coblation Tonsillectomy

I am able to offer the lower pain Coblation Tonsillectomy operation.

Voice Disorders

Persisting vocal disorders need thorough examination to finds out the cause. This may be something simple and benign such as a muscle tension disorder but persistent hoarseness needs investigating to exclude a possible cancerous cause. I am able to pass a small flexible endoscope in clinic following a spray of local anaesthetic to allow visualization of your voice box.

Globus (feeling of a lump in the throat)

A persisting sensation of a lump in the throat without any actual swallowing difficulties may be caused by increased muscle tension or acid reflux. A thorough throat examination / endoscopy is recommended to exclude a more sinister cause if symptoms persist.

Neck Lumps

Lymph nodes in the neck often swell following infection but normally regress spontaneously with in 3 weeks or so. If a lump persists beyond this time it needs investigation to exclude a more dangerous or sinister cause.

Swallowing Problems

Difficulties swallowing solids may indicate a narrowing in the swallowing passage and needs urgent investigation. Difficulties swallowing liquids but not solids may indicate a neurological condition. Endoscopy in clinic can help investigate these conditions further.
